After founding her namesake fashion house in 1912, Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975) took immediate action to improve the working conditions of her thousand employees. Long before French law mandated these benefits, she increased their salaries, granted paid vacation, sick leave, and pregnancy leave. She also provided them with access to doctors and a kindergarten.
